Dabolim airport was established in the 1950s on 249 acres by the government of the Estado da Índia, Portuguesa. Soon after its inception till the year 1961, the airport served as the main centre for the local airline TAIP Transportes Aéreos da Índia Portuguesa. It served Daman & Diu, Karachi, Mozambique, Timor and other places with frequent flights. The airport was taken over by the Indian Navy’s air wing in the year 1962 when Major General K.P. Candeth, who had led the victorious military operation into Goa, “handed over” the airport to the Indian Navy before resigning as its military governor to a Lieutenant Governor of the then Union Territory of Goa in June.

Step 5) At Bambolim, take the exit onto NH66 towards Panaji
Step 6) Follow NH66 for about 6 km, then take the exit towards Porvorim
Step 7) Continue on the Porvorim road for about 8 km
Step 8) Turn right onto the Calangute-Baga Road
Step 9) Follow this road for about 4 km until you reach Calangute
